William Schneider
Principal
Chalmette High School
Will Schneider, a veteran educator and high school administrator, was named as the Acting Principal of Chalmette HIgh School. Schneider takes the helm as long time school leader Wayne Warner is on medical leave to focus on his therapy and rehabilitation following surgery.
Schneider, a 2003 graduate of CHS, was named as Mr. Chalmette that year, one of the school’s highest honors. He said his success at and his love for his alma mater is a direct result of the culture established by Warner and Assistant Principal, Carole Mundt. “Mr. Warner’s dedication and commitment to Chalmette High School are unparalleled,” Schneider said. “He has served as an incredible example of servant leadership and has held the title of the longest-standing principal in the United States. His motto, ‘The choices you make today, shape your world tomorrow,’ has been a guiding principle for all of us, and we will continue to honor it.”
An honor student, gifted performer, and athlete during his time at CHS, Schneider then went on to earn two degrees - his undergraduate from Loyola and his master’s degree from Columbia University’s Teacher College Program. He returned to Chalmette HIgh and Immediately fell in love with teaching. “I knew this was my calling to give back to his school and community that raised me.”
Superintendent Doris Voitier said this school year will mark the first time in 57 years that Warner will not be there to welcome his beloved Owls. “I know Wayne is doing everything he can to get back to school, but it’s critical that he focus on his recovery,” Voitier said. She said Warner will be greatly missed but is confident that the school will continue to run smoothly in his absence. “The high school is in good hands, and we know Mr. Schneider and our administrative team there will continue the tradition of excellence that has been a part of that school’s legacy for a long time.”
Schneider said it’s always been a dream to follow in Warner’s footsteps. “Although this transition is not how I envisioned it, I am deeply honored and humbled to serve as Acting Principal. With the help and support of the administrative team and teachers and with the love and guidance of my beautiful wife and children, I promise to do everything in my power to continue the Warner Way.”
Schneider said he is excited by the start of the new year and looks forward to working with his entire school family. “As always, our doors are open, our phones are on, and we look forward to working with everyone to ensure that we continue to provide the highest-quality education and support for our students. Together, we will uphold the legacy of excellence that Mr. Warner has built and carry forward the Fighting Owl spirit.”
He also asked for the support of the school community. “Let’s all work together to make this school year one of growth, unity, and success for all.”
Warner said he wishes he could be at school but promises to help in any way he can. He also offered Schneider this simple, but important advice. “Enjoy the kids at the beginning of the school year, and make them look forward to coming to school each day.”
